KARACHI: In 2011-12, the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) gathered Rs25.006 billion against a target of Rs25 billion and in 2012-13 it surpassed the target of Rs32 billion by collecting Rs33.655 billion, said Sindh Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Sikandar Mandhro.

He said this during the question hour about the SRB and the labour department at the Sindh Assembly. The minister added that when the federal government used to collect sales tax the collection used to be between Rs6 billion and Rs7 billion, but since the SRB started functioning it increased tax collection manifold.

MPA Waqar Shah asked about the tax collected from Karachi and how much of it was spent on the city. The minister replied that tax collected from all over the province went into one account and then the government spent it all over the province. Separate collection and expenses accounts for each town or district were not maintained, he said.

Answering a question by MQM legislator Aisha Khatoon about number of SRB employees, the minister said that as on Nov 10, 2014, there were 145 employees in the SRB including chairman (in BPS 22 / MP-I) and down to low-ranking employees in BPS-1.
