COLOMBO: The three customs officers who were arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.125 million, have been released on bail.
The order given when they were produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya ordered that the suspects be released on a surety bail of five million rupees each, and a cash bail of Rs.100,000.
In addition, the Colombo Chief Magistrate ordered that the suspects refrain from travelling overseas, and are to report to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, on the last Sunday of every month.
The three suspects are alleged to have refrained from performing their duties by imposing taxes on a businessman who was importing car spare parts into the country.
