COLOMBO: An Indian national who attempted to smuggle foreign currency out of Sri Lanka was arrested by the Sri Lanka Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Sri Lanka Customs said.
The Customs have apprehended the Indian national who attempted to smuggle out foreign currency worth Rs. 6.6 million, Customs media spokesman told local media.
The Custom officials arrested the 45 year old suspect when he was preparing to board a flight to Chennai. The currency, majority in US dollars, was concealed in his luggage.
The money was confiscated and the suspect was released on a fine of Rs. 100,000 rupees after interrogations.
