COLOMBO: Sri Lanka plans to increase its storage capacity for fuel including bunkers in order to expand the business with more shipping traffic projected with the expansion of the island’s ports, Minister of Petroleum Resources Chandima Weerakkody said.
Two more tanks are to be built in the Muthurajawela tank farm, north of Colombo, while the government also plans to increase capacity at the Kolonnawa oil refinery, he told the Colombo International Maritime Conference.
Bigger storage capacity will enable bunker suppliers to order bigger quantities and get better prices, making Sri Lankan bunkering services more competitive, Weerakkody said.
