COLOMBO: Sri Lanka customs officers at the Bandaranaike International (BIA) Airport this morning arrested an official of the State Intelligence at the airport for attempting to smuggle out gold jewelry worth over Rs. 9 million.
Customs Media Spokesperson Sunil Jayaratne said the stock of gold jewelry weighed 2 kilograms and was worth Rs. 9,148,000. The intelligence officer has tried to smuggle out the stock of jewelry tied to his knees. The suspect has been identified as an officer attached to the State Intelligence Service at Katunayake airport. He has said that a person who had arrived from Singapore has given the gold stock to him to smuggle it out. The Airport Customs is conducting further investigations.
