COLOMBO: The Finance Ministry will amend the 150-year old Sri Lanka customs ordinance with a view to absorb modern industrial trends in the current global market.
The ministry said this will enable Sri Lanka to update the prevailing import mechanism and, minimize current trade irregularities.
The government anticipates obtaining the views of scholars, professionals, trade unionists and individuals who are interested in this regard.
Steps have commenced to collect suggestions from the parties who are already engaged in the sector.
Sri Lanka customs ordinance was introduced in 1861 and 50 amendments have been made to it since.
