ST on petrol, diesel jacked up to offset Central GST

KOCHI: The state government increased sales tax on petrol and diesel to offset the loss incurred due to the hike in the Central sales tax. With the Central tax hike, the excise tax on petrol is `6.95 per litre and diesel Rs5.96/litre. With increase the total Central tax on petrol reached Rs14.95 and diesel Rs7.06.

In Kerala, the price of petrol was increased by 61 paise per litre and diesel by 46 paise per litre. The new rates came into effect from Friday midnight.
