SIALKOT: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has posted a deputy collector and an assistant collector at Gujranwala Customs Intelligence and Investigation to resolve the issue of shortage of staff.
Officials said that Chairman Nisar Mohammad Khan appointed the officers named Zeb Ali Khan as deputy director and Itrat Hussain as assistant director following the request forwarded by Director General Shaukat Ali few days ago.
Following the request, the chairman directed the human resources department of the FBR to appoint the staff. The transferred officers have assumed charges at Gujranwala Customs Intelligence office and started working.
On the other hand, Deputy Director Zainab Mehmood has relinquished charge of Gujranwala region because she was given additional charges.
Superintendent Sajjad Rubanni told Customs Today that shortage of deputy director and assistant director has been resolved whereas shortage of investigation officers and constables will be overcome soon, as DG Shaukat has vowed to settle the matter.
Superintendent Muhammad Rauf Farooqi said that appointment of officers will imposed a positive impact on the performance of department. He said that the FBR should take action to appoint other staff to achieve desired results.
He further said that anti-smuggling campaign was in full swing in the region adding that the intelligence officials were making efforts to show good performance despite having limited resources. Vigilance on roads has been enhanced in order to keep an eye on transportation of smuggled items through passenger buses and vans, he said, adding that owners of non-duty paid vehicles will have to bear full weight of law.
