TOKYO: Star Ocean 5 game is coming to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 sometime in the near future, and we have some juicy new tidbits of information.

As previously reported, Star Ocean 5 takes place on the underdeveloped planet of Feycreed, set during Space Date 537 which puts it roughly between the events of Star Ocean 2 and Star Ocean 3. Feycreed is recovering from a technological dark age of sorts known as the Dark 7 Years. Protagonist Fidel is a 23-year-old swordsman tasked with aiding Leslia Kingdom during this time of crisis, backed up by his childhood friend Miki. A new character introduced is the amnesiac, emotionless Lilia, a young girl who joins up with Fidel and company so that they can protect her.

Battles in Star Ocean 5 are seamless, with no more transitions from overworld to battlefield. Cooperation is the key to victory, as battles will be fought against multiple enemies and will be more strategic as a result. The option to switch between characters on the fly will be available. The attack method for each character is based on their distance from the targeted enemy, and different combos can be performed with consecutive button presses. From the sound of things, this battle system is an evolution of what was achieved in previous Star Ocean titles.

Obviously, it wouldn’t be a Star Ocean game without these underdeveloped planet dwellers discovering that they’re a small part of a greater universe, Prime Directive or no, and the screenshot below depicts (what appears to be) Fidel and company’s first encounter with a “Celestial Ship,” or more commonly known as a spaceship. Kind of gives me a Star Ocean: First Departure vibe.

We’ll keep you posted on any and all new information that we find out concerning Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness. In the meantime, why not head over to our freshly updated gallery and take a look at some more pretty screenshots? You know you want to.
