LAHORE: Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh of Lahore High Court (LHC) has vacated a stay earlier granted against construction of 2X-660 MW Qadirabad Coal Fired Power Project in Sahiwal.

Lawyer of the government argued that the project aimed at minimising the electricity crisis in the country. He said the power generation was the need of the hour and the court should vacate the stay so that the project could be completed within the stipulated time.

The counsel pointed out that the government was facing a great financial loss on account of suspended work on the site. Justice Sheikh recalled the stay and allowed the government to resume construction work on the site. The judge adjourned hearing till November 24 for further arguments.

Justice Sheikh had on October 14 maintained the status quo on the construction of the coal power plant on a petition of Saif Power Limited and others.
