Stocks: U.S. market ends little changed after mixed day

NEW YORK: U.S. stocks are ending more or less where they started as a five-day rally runs out of steam.

Six of the 10 sectors in the Standard & Poor’s 500 index ended lower, led by retailers and other consumer-focused stocks. Nike fell 1 percent, the biggest drop in the Dow Jones industrial average.

Bond yields continued to rise Friday as investors felt more comfortable moving money out of low-risk assets. The Dow Jones industrial average edged up 10 points, or 0.1 percent, to 18,516.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index slipped 2 points, or 0.1 percent, to 2,161. The Nasdaq composite lost 4 points, or 0.1 percent, to end at 5,029.

Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 1.59 percent.
