Sub-committee formed to probe encroachment issue of KPT land

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Standing Committee on Ports and Shipping Tuesday constituted a Sub-Committee under the Convenership of Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani, MNA to further probe into the issues of encroachment of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) land and employment of officials on discretionary quota.

The committee met here under the Chairmanship of Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, MNA.

The body directed the Ministry of Ports and Shipping to submit a comprehensive report on the issue of external audit. The Minister Ports & Shipping, Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo assured the Committee that his Ministry will fully cooperate with the Sub-Committee and they are in the process of making an amendment in the law of KPT, which will make external audit binding on KPT on yearly basis. The minister said that KPT will be needing the backing of the Standing Committee to get the KPT land vacated from encroachers and land mafia.

The meeting was attended by the MNAs, Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari, Mehar Ishtiaq Ahmad, Khalil George, Romina Khurshid Alam, Pir Muhammad Aslam Bodla, Mir Aamir Ali Khan Magsi, Mohammad Salman Khan Baloch, Mohammad Jamal-ud-Din, Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani, Secretary, Ministry of Ports and Shipping, Chairman KPT and other senior officers from the ministry.
