SHC grants protective bails to suspects involved in illegal export of gold

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has granted three-day protective bail to three suspects in five cases pertaining to the export of gold worth billions of rupees on fake E-forms.

A single bench comprising Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto directed applicants Sajid Abdul Qadir, Irfan and Muhammad Shahid to deposit surety bonds of Rs 60,000 each in five cases. The judge directed the suspects to surrender before the trial court and cooperate in investigation of the case.

The applicants’ counsel submitted that his clients had nothing to do with the alleged gold scam, however, they were shown as accused persons in the charge-sheet submitted to the Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling. Subsequently, the trial court declared them absconders, issuing non-bailable warrants for their arrest.  He said that his clients were ready to surrender before the court and face charges, therefore, he requested the court to grant them bail.  According to the details of the cases, the customs authorities had registered five cases against exporters including Saani Impex, BD Enterprises and Rubab Corporation, Makkah Enterprises, M/s Reaz Corporation for exporting gold worth billions of rupees on fake E-forms, causing huge losses to the national exchequer.
