KHARTOUM: Sudan’s inflation rate jumped to 13.98 percent in May compared to 12.85 percent in April, an official report said Sunday. The report by Sudan’s Central Bureau of Statistics attributed the inflation rise to the hike in the prices of all consumption commodities.

In late May and early June, ahead of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, the major commodities in capital Khartoum saw great rise in their prices. The Sudanese economy has been suffering from difficulties as a result of the secession of South Sudan, which caused the country to lose three quarters of its oil wealth.
