Sukkur Intelligence raids Shalimar Express; seizes mobile sets, laptops worth Rs 5.5 million

KARACHI: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation of Sukkur Range has seized smuggled mobile phones worth Rs 5.5 million and the duty/tax involved in this seizure was Rs 23, 556.

According to the details, the staff of Sukkur raided the Shalimar Express (27up) bounded for Lahore and seized smuggled mobile sets, Laptops etc from the break van of the train which were being transported from Karachi to Multan onward Lahore.

As many as 345pieces of mobile phones of different brand i.e. iPhone, Samsung, Sony etc were seized.

As many as 137 Tabs/Tablets of different brand i.e. iPod, Dell, Samsung etc. and 23 pieces of Laptops (used) were also seized besides 58 kilograms of cell phone accessories i.e. hand free, chargers etc.

The approximate CIF value of the seized items was counted to the tune of Rs5.5 million, while the duty and taxes involved in this seizure was Rs23,556.

The smuggled goods have been seized under Section 168 of the Customs Act, 1969.

It may be mentioned here that the Customs Intelligence & Investigation of Sindh region has speeded up their activities following the directives of Director General Customs I&I Lutfullah Virk and Director I&I Asif Marghoob Siddiqui in the province which has yielded up in the bring better results.
