MEXICO: A PHOTO of the Sun with a huge ‘HALO’ around it has sparked frenzied speculation of ALIENS or WORSE.

Juan Manuel Caballero, of Mexico’s National Weather Service, said: “I have received some 30 phone calls from people who are scared and think that it’s a bad omen, others think it means it will rain more than expected.”

Mr Caballero said the sight was quite common, but people rarely looked up to the sky.

However, the reassurances that the phenomenon was merely an optical illusion did little to calm some locals.
