Surcharge on electricity: LHC seeks reply from federal government, PEPCO, NEPRA

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) sought answer from federal government, Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) and National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) over imposition of four rupees surcharge on electricity.

As per details, LHC Justice Shahid Karim heard the case where the advocate Azhar Saeed, counsel for appellant presented the arguments that govt was putting burden on already marginalised people by imposing taxes.

He said that people were paying already paying many taxes including tariff rationalization surcharge, debit servicing surcharge, Neelum-Jehlum surcharge but not overcoming the electricity theft.

On the other hand, counsel for federal government, Deputy Attorney General Nasr Ahmed said sdthat surcharge were necessary to run the electricity system.
