BERN: The amount of mobile devices sold in Switzerland grew from 2.94 million in 2006 to 4.77 million in 2014, Cetoday.ch reports citing figures from GfK. Revenue increased from CHF 927 million to CHF 1.757 billion over the same period, which equates to growth of almost 90 percent. The growth is slowing, as sales in 2014 decreased by 3 percent. GfK expects another drop of 4 percent to CHF 1.681 billion this year. One of the reasons for the decline is the halt in demand for feature phones. Sales of feature phones have fallen from more than 3 million in 2007 to an expected less than 300,000 devices this year.

The market for smartphones has grown from 100,000 devices worth more than CHF 75 million in 2007 to 3.1 million devices worth more than 1.36 billion in 2014. GfK expects even more smartphones to be sold this year, but a decline in revenue of 1 percent. The smartphone market is becoming more fragmented; more producers want to release smartphones in addition to tablets, and many producers offer smartphones for less than CHF 100.
