GENEVA: The Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) reported on Tuesday that the confederation’s unemployment rate rose to 3.3 percent in October this year, with as many as 141,269 people registered as unemployed in the country.
Up from 3.2 percent two months ago, the SECO also indicated that last month’s unemployment rate represented a 6.7-percent rise compared to unemployment levels recorded in October 2014.
Statistics show that youth (15 to 24 year olds) unemployment dropped by 3.9 percent, with 19,810 young adults looking for a job last month.
The number of jobseekers signed up to work in Switzerland rose by 4,878 people from September to October, reaching 200,920 people by the end of October.
SECO said the number of listed job opportunities in the country decreased by 1,871 in October to reach 9,471.
