TAIPEI: Prices for Taiwanese containerized HMS # 1&2 80:20 imports fell further to $210 a ton during the week ended September 09, as per the latest figures from The Steel Index. Taiwanese scrap prices dropped by S$3 a ton during the week to $210 a ton. Mills have been bidding at lower prices this week as they were looking for lower priced raw materials in order to minimize production costs.
Demand for finished long products remains weak in the domestic market; hence mills have had difficulties in attempting to sell them. Furthermore, suppliers of imported ISRI grade scrap have also lowered their offer prices, but were still unable to match the levels that the mills were asking.
