TAIPEI: Taiwan has said taxpayers can now make overseas tax payments without appointing a local tax representative or setting up a local bank account.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Finance has launched a new cross-border remittance service, allowing individual income tax payments to be made from abroad. It comes in response to requests from overseas residents who have in the past struggled to pay tax bills.
To utilize the service, taxpayers can request an “Individual Income Tax Payment via Cross-border Remittance Application form” (Annex 1) from the Foreign Taxpayers Section of the National Taxation Bureau of Taipei (NTBT) and submit this back by mail or fax. An instruction manual on cross-border remittances for foreign taxpayers has also been issued to provide details on how funds can be transferred directly into NTBT’s Bank of Taiwan bank account.
Users must cover all currency conversion charges along with any service charges from both the remitting and the beneficiary bank.
