Taiwan stocks climb marginally as tech shares increase, TAIEX index surges 0.5pc

TAIPEI: Taiwan stocks climbed slightly on Wednesday, boosted up by technology shares and gains in overseas markets.
As of 0205 GMT, the main TAIEX index was up 0.5 per cent, or 50.03 points to 9301.72, after closing up 0.85 per cent on Tuesday. Domestic shares tracked firmness in overseas markets. Late on Tuesday, Taiwan issued data showing the island’s export orders hit a record high last year, led by demand for technology goods.
The electronics sub-index was up 0.7 per cent, while the narrower semiconductor sub-index was 1.4 per cent higher. Financials rose 0.4 per cent.
Chipmaker TSMC was up over 1 per cent.
The Taiwan dollar was up T$0.029 to stand at T$31.667 to the US dollar.
