Taiwan stocks decline 0.2% at start, TAIEX down 19.30pts
TAIPEI: Taiwan stocks dropped 0.2 percent on Friday, led by a middling showing from the island’s key banking and electronics sectors.
As of 0149 GMT, the main TAIEX index was down 19.30 points to 9,600, after closing down 0.5 percent on Thursday.
The electronics subindex was 0.26 percent lower. Leading the decline were smartphone chip-design firm MediaTek Inc and struggling PC maker Acer Inc, which fell 1.48 and 1.64 percent, respectively.
The banking subindex fell 0.64 percent, led by Fubon Financial Holding Co Ltd’s 1.57 percent decline.
