Taiwan stocks edge up 0.15pc at start, TAIEX soars 14.44pts

TAIPEI: Taiwan stocks edged up 0.15 per cent in midday trading on Tuesday, largely in line with a mixed performance in other regional bourses and kept afloat by transportation and construction shares.

As of 0326 GMT, the main TAIEX index was up 14.44 points at 9,540.55, after closing up 0.19 per cent on Monday.

Transportation was the best-performing of all major sub-indexes, gaining 1.18 per cent, with major air carrier Eva Airways Corp up 3.2 per cent and China Airlines Ltd rising 1.27 per cent.

Construction gained 1.08 per cent, while the electronics sub-index was up 0.17 percent. The Taiwan dollar was up T$0.092 to stand at T$31.288 to the US dollar.
