Taiwan stocks end higher, Taiwan Weighted shoots up 0.5

TAIPEI: Taiwan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Machinery, Chemicals and Cement sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted rose 0.57%.

The best performers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Basso Indu (TW:1527), which rose 10.00% or 5.00 points to trade at 55.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Faraday Tech (TW:3035) added 9.98% or 4.25 points to end at 46.85 and Y.C.C. (TW:1339) was up 9.97% or 4.75 points to 52.40 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Wei Chih Steel (TW:2028), which fell 10.00% or 0.15 points to trade at 1.35 at the close. Tainan Cayman (TW:5906) declined 3.99% or 0.11 points to end at 2.65 and Compeq Mftg (TW:2313) was down 3.92% or 0.95 points to 23.30.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Taiwan Stock Exchange by 647 to 194 and 2 ended unchanged.

Shares in Basso Indu (TW:1527) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 10.00% or 5.00 to 55.00.

Crude oil for November delivery was up 0.79% or 0.36 to $45.90 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in November rose 0.76% or 0.36 to hit $48.49 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.18% or 2.00 to trade at $1134.60 a troy ounce.

USD/TWD was up 0.26% to 32.790, while TWD/CNY rose 0.26% to 0.1942.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.17% at 95.88.
