TAIPEI: Taiwan stocks rose 0.6 per cent on Wednesday, led by tech heavyweights such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC).
As of 0135 GMT, the main TAIEX index had risen to 9,598.39, extending a 0.3 per cent gain from the previous session.
TSMC, the world’s No. 1 contract chip maker, and AU Optronics , the world’s No.4 flat panel maker, rose more than 1 per cent.
Overall, electronics shares climbed 0.8 per cent, while banking shares rose 0.4 per cent.
The Taiwan dollar was up 0.379 per cent at T$31.547 to the US dollar.
