Taiwan stocks record 5 month low at end, TAIEX drops 1.9pc

TAIPEI: Taiwan stocks ended sharply lower at a near five-month low on Tuesday, falling with regional bourses.

The main TAIEX index fell 1.9 percent to end at 9,191.87, its lowest close since it settled at 9,174.06 Jan. 19.

The electronics subindex slid 2.1 percent, while the financial subindex declined 1.3 percent.

Bellwether chipmaker TSMC was the rare stock that managed to hold on to gains, closing 0.4 percent higher.

Company chairman Morris Chang told shareholders on Tuesday that he expects this year’s percentage revenue growth to slip to “the teens”, which would still be double digit gains, but off the heady 28 percent in 2014.

The Taiwan dollar was up T$0.155 to stand at T$31.120 to the US dollar
