TAIPEI: Taiwan stocks tumbled 0.33 per cent on Wednesday as Apple Inc supplier’s skidded even after the US tech huge posted better-than-expected revenue growth, along with record sales of its iPhone line.
The main TAIEX index was lower 32.35 points at 9,490.24 as of 0139 GMT, after closing up 0.46 per cent on Tuesday.
The electronics subindex was down 0.34 per cent, dragged lower by key Apple suppliers even after the Silicon Valley firm smashed Wall Street expectations with record sales of big-screen iPhones in the holiday shopping season and a 70 per cent rise in China sales.
Apple chip supplier Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd fell 0.68 per cent, chip packaging and testing firm Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Inc shed 0.38 per cent and smartphone camera lens maker Largan Precision Co Ltd
Dropped 0.73 per cent. One bright spot was final assembler Pegatron Corp, which was up 1 per cent.
The Taiwan dollar was up T$0.137 at T$31.188 to the US dollar.
