TAIPEI: Taiwanese small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) generate the highest revenue from exports in 13 markets around the world, the results of a survey commissioned by express delivery service FedEx Express show.
Taiwanese SMEs generate an average of US$2.8 million in revenue per year from exports, according to the survey that was carried out by market research consultancy Harris Interactive for FedEx in September.
In comparison, the global average stood at US$1.5 million, while the average of the six Asia-Pacific markets — China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and Singapore — was US$1.8 million.
Other markets covered in the survey were France, Germany, Italy, Spain, India, Brazil and Colombia.
The survey shows that 52 percent of Taiwanese SMEs recognized the business opportunities in overseas markets, although only 37 percent sell their products abroad.
Hong Kong came in second place, with its SMEs generating average revenues of US$2.6 million from exports, according to the study.
The survey was conducted among 6,891 executives of SMEs — companies that employ 249 people or fewer — in the 13 markets, FedEx said.
