TAIPEI: Largan Precision Co, which makes lenses used in cameras and information technology products, yesterday reported 32.99 percent annual growth in sales of NT$4.27 billion (US$138.7 million) for last month. The figure was 8.92 percent higher than the previous month.

As the results were in line with the firm’s expectation, Largan maintains its forecast that sales for this month might be flat from last month’s NT$4.27 billion.

“The order visibility for June remains unclear,” a company official who declined to be named said by telephone.

Yuanta Securities Investment Consulting Co said Largan’s sales this quarter might grow 19 percent quarter-on-quarter to NT$12.57 billion, thanks to the increasing average selling price for its lenses.

“Given that major client Apple Inc might face its trough of the year this quarter, the key growth driver for Largan’s revenue this quarter would be its rising average selling prices ahead of the peak season in the second half of this year,” a Yuanta analyst said.

Last month, Largan saw higher-margin products featuring 10 megapixels or more and above products contribute between 20 percent and 30 percent of its total shipments, while 8-megapixel products accounted for between 50 percent and 60 percent and a 5-megapixel product line contributed between 10 percent and 20 percent.

Meanwhile, the company’s contact lens products are currently available in 240 retail stores nationwide, Largan said.

The company plans to continue increasing the number of retail partners in Taiwan this year and is in talks with Chinese retailers and manufacturers over potential collaboration in terms of brand name business and original equipment manufacturing, Largan said.

Separately, Catcher Technology Co (可成科技), which supplies metal casings for Apple Inc’s iPhones, yesterday posted record-high monthly revenue of NT$7.08 billion for last month, a 66 percent jump from NT$4.26 billion a year earlier.

On a monthly basis, Catcher’s revenue grew 2.16 percent from NT$6.93 billion made in the previous month, according to the company’s filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange.

The firm’s revenue totaled NT$24.48 billion for the first four months of this year, surging 66.75 percent from last year’s NT$14.68 billion.
