KARACHI: The tanners have urged the Sindh government to give them their due share from its announced Rs150 billion city development package for leather sector in the metropolis.
Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA-South Zone) Acting Chairman Amir Majeed, in a statement, said that the leather industry is the second largest export industrial sector of the country, adding that tannery zone should be included in this package and better infrastructure be developed there.
Pakistan People’s Party Co-Chairman Bilal Bhutto Zardari has recently announced the package of Rs 150 billion for development works in Karachi.
There was worst shortage of water in the tannery zone for last two decades and the industrialists were forced to purchase water from water tankers’ mafia, he pointed out.
