Tariq Bajwa directs DG IR-Intelligence to trap influential tax evaders

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Tariq Bajwa has directed Haroon Tareen, the Director General of Inland Revenue Intelligence, to expedite action against influential tax evaders and tax defaulters.

The FBR chairman has also ordered that the departmental proceeding should be initiated against the officials involved in supporting the culprits in evading taxes, besides referring the cases of ‘black sheep’ to the National Accountability Bureau.

Theses direction were given by the chairman to DG IR Intelligence in a meeting, wherein DG also briefed the FBR chairman about mega tax evasion cases, including former president Asif Ali Zardari’s case, JS Bank case, Malik Riaz, owner of Bahria Town’s case, Axact and model Ayyan Ali’s cases.

He also informed the chairman about the issues creating hurdles in the way of investigations on which Tariq Bajwa assured him of full support to continue the investigations.

The DG also asked the FBR chairman to increase the rate of penalties and made harder the punishments to discourage the elements causing losses to the national exchequer.

The FBR chairman said that he will discuss it with the government to devise strategies to tighten noose around the tax evaders.
