LONDON: Tata Steel announced plans to shut three U.K. production facilities with around 1,200 job cuts.
Proposed changes include an end to steel plate production, with plants at Scunthorpe, Clydebridge and Dalzell mothballed.
The company said a shift in market conditions caused by a flood of cheap imports have led to the changes, and it also cited a strong pound and high electricity costs.
Tata Steel says plans to concentrate on higher-value markets with a focus on developing stronger, lighter products.
