Tauqeer Dar urges customs top officials to patronize national game

LAHORE: The Customs Department’s top officials need to support hockey, the national game, to regain its past glory. Dar Hockey Academy offers free coaching to the children of customs offices at the National Hockey Stadium Lahore.

These views were expressed by Deputy Director Post Clearance Audit (PCA) Tauqueer Dar while talking to Customs Today.

Tauqeer Dar, besides being a professional and competent customs official, is also a former hockey player. He was the member of the winning Pakistani team in 1984 Summer Olympics. He is the son of Munir Ahmad Dar and the nephew of Tanvir Dar. He is the son-in-law of Khawaja Zaka-ud-Din who was the head coach of Pakistani hockey team for 1984 Summer Olympics.  He said that his hockey academy has offered free coaching to the children of the customs officers and they should send their kids to get training.

He added that hockey and the Customs Department have very long and special association as the Customs Department has played a pivotal role in promotion of the national game.

He said that in the past, officials of Pakistan customs have earned good name for the country and now against the game is in dire need of the customs department to patronize it.

Dar added that world’s best hockey players including Hassan Sardar, Kaleemullah, Tanveer Dar, Anwar Ahmad were from customs department who made their mark in the history of world hockey.  Dar said that game is our national identification and Dar Hockey Academy is doing its best to hunt the best talent in order to regain its lost glory. He urged the customs departments to officials to lend hand to make the hockey pride o Pakistan.

He said that his academy has offered free training to the children of the customs officers so that once again Pakistan customs could produce hockey players or the revival of the national game.
