Tax culture crucial for development: Dr Iqbal Zafar

FAISALABAD: A tax culture in any country is a prerequisite for development of the country, while trust deficit among people and collecting agencies needs to be bridged to make people pay taxes honestly.

This was stated by University of Agriculture Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Iqbal Zafar while addressing a tax awareness seminar, arranged by the office of research innovation and commercialisation, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad and the Punjab Revenue Authority as an initiative of the Punjab government at New Senate Hall, UAF, here Tuesday.

UAF Treasurer Tariq Saeed said that Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) collected tax through withholding agents on different services whereas majority of the service providers were not registered with the PRA.

Director Institute of Agricultural Resource and Economics Dr Sultan Ali Adil said that developed nations were spending 20 per cent of their Gross Domestic Product on education whereas in Pakistan, only five percent was being spent that needs to be enhanced to face challenges of modern era.

Tax expert Hamid Masood called for holding the tax seminars in every corner of the country in order to educate people about importance of the tax.
