Tax evasion: Adjudication-I recovers Rs 2m from M/s Usman Babar and Company

KARACHI: The Customs Adjudication-I has recovered Rs 2 million from M/s Usman Babar and Company (UB Company). The company was found involved in tax evasion.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Customs Adjudication-I Mohammad Javed issued a show-cause notice to M/s Usman Babar and Company for allegedly causing loss of Rs 2 million by way of mis-declaration of classification.

According to sources, M/s Usman Babar and Company imported a consignment of used leather coat and jackets from China and got them cleared by mis-declaring the classification under Pakistan Custom Tariff (PCT) from Pakistan International Container Terminal (PICT). They allegedly availed undue and inadmissible benefit as well as exemption of sales tax.

It is pertinent to mention here that M/s Usman Babar and Company itself has imported identical/same import under correct PCT heading 2809.3487. Apart from it, all other importers of used leather coat and jackets have either been declared by the importers or assessed by the Collectorates.

Earlier, Customs Adjudication-I has a show-cause notice to M/s Alia Ahmed and Company for allegedly causing loss of Rs1.22 million by way of mis-declaration of classification.

The Customs Adjudication-I has recovered Rs 2.12 million from M/s Hudiaba Enterprises. The company was found involved in tax evasion. Collector Customs Adjudication-I Mohammad Javed sent a show-cause notice to M/s Hudaiba Enterprises for allegedly causing a loss of Rs 2.12 million to the national kitty by way of mis-declaration of classification on September 28, 2017.
