Tax evasion: Appraisement West files FIR against M/s Al-Jeeran Engineering & M/s Saifur Rehman and Brothers

KARACHI: Collecorate of Customs Appraisement West submitted first information report (FIR) against proprietor/partners/directors of M/s Al-Jeeran Engineering, M/s Saifur Rehman and Brothers Private Limited and others in mis-declaration and evasion of duties and taxes of Rs60,151,769.

On March 12, 2019, investigation officer submitted FIR before customs court and informed the court that on receipt of credible information, regarding a possible misuse of TP facility and a likely attempt to bring banned/restricted goods into the country by way of mis-declaration by some unscrupulous/criminal, the AIB (R&D) section started monitoring of TP consignments in the customs computerized system and checked consignment of above-mentioned importers.

He further informed the court that as per the filed transshipment declaration mentioning description of the goods in used auto parts quantity 1 lot weighing 25300 kilograms at declared/self-assessed total value of $6325, and container was opened for examination.

Investigation officer stated the court that during the examination, customs officials found old and used dialysis machine assorted model, Germany and Korea origins, 100 pieces, new circuit breakers, assorted ampere, Polere, brand Hager, IO, France 5767 kilograms ball bearing & Roller bearing, brand NTN & Koyo, IO, Japan, 2467 kilograms & 1626 kilograms mobile phones assorts models/ type, brands, IO, China new 2650 set and used 6600 set. Tablets assorted models, brand LG, origin China, 1128 sets used and 82 new sets. Digital video recorder, assorted model, brand multi Star, Origin China 130 pcs and other goods.

He disclosed that above-mentioned importers mis-declared description, quantity and import of brand/restricted items under the false description of used auto scrap, evading duties and taxes of Rs60,151,769.

After the hearing, court took FIR into court record and directed him to complete investigation and submit charge sheet on next date of hearing.
