Tax evasion: Customs Court approves charge sheet against M/s Blooming Leather

KARACHI: The customs court approved a charge sheet against the owner of M/s Blooming Leather for committing of tax fraud by claiming illegal input/ obtaining sales tax refund on the strength of fake and flying invoices and false zero-rated supplies without having a manufacturing facility.

On 30 December 2020, investigation officer submitted charge sheet and submit that during the investigation, it was revealed that the accused person managed to get registered business with name of M/s Blooming Leather declared principal business activity as manufacture/ importer and exporter of tanning and dressing of leather, dressing and dyes, the directorate has conducted discreet inquiry about the genuineness of the refund claim and it was observed that during the course of scrutiny of discrepancies have been observed in the data available at official web portal of FBR to the said case an aggregated amount to refund of Rs15. 185 million has been claimed/ processed to the subject unit which is registered as manufacturer/ importers/ exporter/ service provider.

He further submitted that the registered person was claiming illegal input from various suppliers for the periods of 2011 to 2014 of Rs2.781 million and in this way above mentioned importer along with other buyers/ suppliers caused loss to national exchequer to the tune of Rs17. 940 million.

After the hearing, the court approved the charge sheet and directed the investigation officer to complete further investigation and submit the final charge sheet within a suitable period.
