Tax evasion: Customs Exports issues notices to M/s Mugheera Associates, M/s Absa Knitwear

KARACHI: The Customs Exports has served two show cause notices and one final notice on tax defaulters and tax evaders for recovery of dues.

Sources told Customs Today that Custom Exports issued notices to three companies, including M/s Mugheera Associates and Sons, M/s Absa Knitwear and Export and other. According to the detail, M/s Mugheera Associates used wrong Pakistan Customs Tariff (PCT) headings to get a consignment of chargeable fans and external batteries cleared on September 2 and caused the national kitty a loss of Rs 2.68 million.

During the scrutiny of the import data, the Customs Exports detected the misuse of PCT heading for which it was issued with a show-cause notice No: 227/2017 for paying the evaded amounts of tax and duty.

Meanwhile, the Customs Exports unearthed another tax evasion committed by M/s Absa Knitwear and Export who got cleared a consignment of different kinds of ladies suits, (net fabrics and cotton pieces and others).

The customs authorities, after a careful investigation, served a show cause notice on the company and asked it to deposit the evaded tax amounts within fortnight. Another company M/s Ayat Traders Karachi cleared a consignment of Aluminum sheets (windows and door frames) and used wrong Pakistan Customs Tariff.

The custom authorities issued a final notice and mentioned to submit all the documents for consignment soon and submit balance amount. It is necessary to mention here that the Customs Exports has served five show cause and 2 final notices on tax defaulters and tax evaders for recovery of dues during the last 19 days of October.
