Tax evasion of Rs34.511m: Customs Court seeks progress report against M/s Khadeeja Packages

KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer of Commissioner Inland (IR) Revenue Zone-IV, RTO-I to complete investigation and submit progress report against suspect namely Syed Muhammad Dabeer Hussain Zaidi of M/s Khadeeja Packages, who was nominated in first information report (FIR) of commission of tax fraud by falsifying sales tax invoices.

On 28 April 2021, investigation officer informed the court that a credible information received that M/s Khadeeja Packages had been claiming fake sales tax refund from using different kinds of fraud, their sales tax data retrieved from the FBR e-portal shows that the registered person refund claimed/ adjusted inadmissible input tax of Rs34. 511 million during the tax period Jan 2011 to Oct 2012.

He further submitted that investigation was also carried out by examining the information available at FBR’s e-portal regarding the registered person, involved in the purchases and use of fake and forged invoices/ documents and on the basis of information received and gathered from other sources, it was revealed that illegal and inadmissible input tax/ refund have deceitfully and fraudulently been adjusted and refund of sales tax was obtained on the basis of fake invoices and fake/ fabricated/ bogus documents.

Investigation officer added that above mentioned suspect and others are involved to evasion of duty and taxes in the tune of Rs34. 511 million.

After the hearing, court taken FIR into court record and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit progress report on next date of hearing.
