Tax evasion of Rs9.324m: Customs Court approves progress report against M/s MAJ Corporation & others

KARACHI: The Customs Court approved a progress report against Mohsin Ali Jalbani, owner of M/s MAJ Corporation and others, for commission of tax fraud by falsifying sales tax invoices amounting to Rs. 9.324 million.

On 6 April 2021, investigation officer of Zone-IV, Regional Tax Office-I, Karachi submitted progress report and informed the court that a credible information received that M/s MAJ Corporation had been claiming fake sales tax refund from using different kinds of fraud, therefore, their sales tax dated retrieved from the FBR e-portal shows that the registered person had refund claimed/ adjusted inadmissible input tax of Rs9.324 million during the tax period July 2012 to July 2013.

He further informed the court that investigation was also carried out by examining the information available at FBR’s e-portal regarding the registered person involved in the purchases and use of fake and forget invoices/ documents and on the basis of information received and gathered from other sources, it was revealed that illegal and inadmissible input tax/ refund have deceitfully and fraudulently been adjusted and refund of sales tax was obtained on the basis of fake invoices and fake/ fabricated/ bogus documents.

He argued that case was registered for violation of under section 2 (37), 2(9), 2(14) and other related sections of Pakistan Penal Code, 471 and sales tax act, 1990.

After the hearing, the court approved the progress report and adjourned the hearing for regular proceedings.
