Tax Rationalisation Committee formed to facilitate business, review tax structure

FAISALABAD: The divisional administration has constituted a ‘Tax Rationalisation Committee’ to facilitate ease of doing business and strengthen coordination between the government and business community by reviewing the existing provincial and local taxation structure.

According to a notification issued in this regard, Divisional Commissioner Faisalabad Raja Jahangir Anwar would serve as convener of the committee while Additional Commissioner (Coordination) Tanveer Murtaza has been appointed as secretary and member.

Other members of the committee include Director Excise & Taxation Department Punjab, Commissioner Punjab Revenue Authority, President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) Farooq Yousaf Sheikh, Chairman All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPM) Rao Malik Muhammad Akram, former Chairman All Pakistan Bedsheets & Upholstery Manufacturers Association (APBUMA) Arif Ehsan Malik, Zonal Chairman Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PHMA) Ahmed Afzal Awan and former Senior Vice President FCCI Chaudhary Tallat Mahmood.

A spokesman of local administration said here on Friday that the committee would review the current structure of provincial and local taxes applicable to industries in the division and prepare a report on their impact on industrial growth, investment and employment.

The committee would also identify hurdles in the issuance of NOCs and other permissions required by industries and recommend measures to remove such obstacles.

The body would present recommendations for rationalization of taxes aimed at promoting industrial development and improving the overall business environment in the division, he added.
