FAISALABAD: Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue FBR Regional Tax Office Faisalabad Dr Shah Muhammad Khan said that taxes are the lifeline of any country and its related problems could be resolved with the mutual consent of the taxpayers and tax collectors.

Addressing the business community during a meeting in the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI), he said that rights of business community are the obligation of the FBR.

“Similarly, the rights of FBR are the responsibility of taxpayers and they must understand each other’s problems and facilitate this process in the greater national interest”, he added.

About delay in the registration process, the chief commissioner said that he had already talked to the concerned wing of the FBR so that this process could be expedited.

He said that he is already fully aware of the problems highlighted by Senior Vice President FCCI Naveed Akram Sheikh and practical steps are being taken to facilitate the taxpayers.

Responding to the refund system, he said that 99% cases are processed through the FASTER system and remaining few cases are handled manually.

He said that most of the major local corporate companies have been shifted to the large taxpayers’ offices (LTOs) in Multan and Lahore.

“Their revenue is paid in Lahore or Multan while its adjustment is made in Faisalabad”, he said and assured that other problems including audit issues would be resolved very soon.

Earlier, Senior Vice President FCCI Naveed Akram Sheik welcomed the Chief Commissioner and said that the business community intends to resolve the issues through mutual dialogue and in this connection, a joint desk composed of the representatives of the business community and RTO could be formed.

He explained in detail the hardships faced by the business community due to the delay in registration process, refund of sales tax, issuance of exemption certificates and flooding of notices regarding sale tax and income tax.

He suggested that the business community is not fully aware of the integration process, hence awareness sessions could be arranged.

Use of 38B and 40B is fomenting unrest among the business community which may enhance trust deficit, he added.

Engr Rizwan Ashraf, Rana Sikandar Azam, Chaudhary Talat Mehmood, Mian Tanvir Ahmed, Abdul Waheed, Obaidullah Sheikh, Hajji Muhammad Attaullah, Abdul Haseeb Ijaz, Dr Ijaz Nisar, Hajji Muhammad Ashraf, Jawad Shafique, Tariq Mehmood Qadri, Muhammad Tayyab and Rais-ur-Rehman participated in the question-answer session.

Mr Ihsanullah, Touqeer Ahmed and Asif Rashid Commissioners FBR were also present during this event.
