Taxpayers’ debts to the state keep piling up

ATHENS: Taxpayers’ expired debts to the state created this year climbed to 4.33 billion euros at the end of April, according to Finance Ministry data released on Tuesday.

Although April was a better month for state coffers in that the growth of expired debts eased to 694 million euros, the average total of new debts created every month exceeds 1 billion euros, and that during a period without any major tax payments due, such as income tax or the Single Property Tax (ENFIA). In total, the debts of taxpayers to the authorities have reached the staggering figure of 87.88 billion euros, while they are likely to climb to 95 billion by the end of the year.
