TDAP working on new policies to boost exports: Director

ISLAMABAD: Trade Development Authority of Pakistan Director M Khalid Rasool visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry to take business community on board regarding efforts aimed at making TDAP more effective body to promote trade and exports of the country.

He said businessmen were playing vital role in improving the local economy and TDAP Islamabad was working on new policies to boost local exports. He said business community should also come up with new ideas for trade development from this region. He said many plans were in process to make TDAP Islamabad a proactive organization to facilitate the growth of trade and exports from this region and assured that all such plans would be implemented in consultation with local business community for achieving better results.

Speaking at the occasion, Muzammil Hussain Sabri President, Muhammad Shakeel Munir Senior Vice President and Muhammad Ashfaq Hussain Chatha Vice President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that Islamabad region has good potential to promote export of many products including IT, light engineering, pharmaceuticals, marble, steel etc., however TDAP was ignoring this region while sponsoring trade delegations to foreign countries. They stressed that TDAP should ensure proper representation of this region in foreign trade delegations to improve the trade and exports of this part.

They said TDAP should assist businessmen in organizing foreign exhibitions of local products and provide warehousing facilities at affordable cost in potential foreign countries to display exportable products of the region.

They said that the performance of Pakistani foreign missions was needed to be further improved and they should provide updated trade related information to trade delegations. They said that these missions should play active role in identifying potential of Pakistani products in foreign markets and share the same with Chambers of Commerce for improving country’s exports.

They said that TDAP should provide proper briefing to sponsored trade delegations about all aspects of foreign visit so that they may not face any problems in foreign countries. It was agreed that both organizations would explore collaboration for conducting capacity building programs for businessmen and awareness seminars on trade laws and rules etc.
