Teams of Dubai Police, Dubai ports scores huge in football championship

DUBAI: Hosts Dubai Police and Dubai Ports scored huge wins on the sixth day of the fifth Maktoum Bin Rashid Football Championship being held at the Dubai Police Officers Club late on Thursday.

Dubai Police scored a hard-fought 4-3 win over Al Jokar to take their tally up to seven points and keep sole leadership of Group D. Dubai Ports, meanwhile, swamped Expo 2020 7-0 to register their second win and take their tally to six points to remain tied in second with Al Fohood, who also got their second win with a 3-2 result against Samba.

In Group C action, Arsenal became sole leaders with a 7-3 thrashing of RAK Sport. Arsenal started off with a draw and followed it up with two wins on the trot to take their tally to seven points. Capital Police thrashed Sport 4 All to record their second win after three matches and continue their chase of Group C leaders Arsenal.

Arsenal’s strong showing continued with two more matches to go as they mauled RAK Sport 7-3 despite trailing by two goals from Mohammad Mussabah early in the match. Arsenal regrouped well and Tariq Aman scored a fine hat-trick to see his team ahead 3-2 at half-time.

Bader Ebrahim got a brace early in the second half and Khalfan Juma added one of his own to make it 6-2. At the fag end, Abdul Rahman Mohammad pulled one back for RAK Sport with his fourth individual goal to complete the rout.

Salem Sabri and his younger brother Date were on a roll in Dubai Ports 7-0 thrashing of Expo 2020. Date scored in the 12th and 19th minutes to go 2-0 clear. Older brother Salem Sabri then stepped in and scored twice to make it 4-0 by half-time.

Sabri made it 5-0 and Date added two more in the 33rd and 34th minutes to complete the rout and keep chasing group leaders Dubai Police.

In other matches, Commandos and Dubai Customs played to a 3-3 draw, while Capital Police slammed five past Sport 4 All and Al Fohood edged their way past Samba 3-2.
