LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) would expedite cooperation and coordination to ensure provision of quality skilled manpower to the industry.
The LCCI Senior Vice President Mian Nauman Kabir and Vice President Syed Mehmood Ghaznavi were talking to TEVTA Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh here at TEVTA head office. Khawaja Khawar Rashid, Khawaja Shahzad Akram, Ch. Wajid Ali, Fahim ur Rehman Saigol and Nasir Saeed were prominent among the participants of the meeting.
LCCI Senior Vice President Mian Nauman Kabir said that technical education is a pre-requisite to much-needed GDP growth. They also agreed to hold regular meetings for curricula review keeping in view the requirement of the industry.
Speaking on the occasion, LCCI Senior Vice President Mian Nauman Kabir and Vice President Syed Mahmood Ghaznavi said that both organizations have already joined hands by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to ensure the provision of skilled workforce to the local industry.
They said that collaboration between the two institutions ultimately bridge the Skill Gap which will lead to a quantum jump in the exports of the country, by value addition and responding to technological shift in the manufacturing.
They stressed the need for formulating policy for the promotion of demand driven technical education and vocational training in Punjab, under TEVTA.
They said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry will extend maximum cooperation to the officials of TEVTA in conducting Training Need Assessments etc.
They urged the TEVTA Chief to involve LCCI while developing new courses and up-grading various syllabus.
They said that present setup of technical training is not addressing the requirements of modern industrialization taking place in the country.
They said that Pakistan is a country of more than 190 million people with a high percentage of youth along with fast growing industrial sector. But unfortunately both the sides are unable to accommodate each other. As the skills required by industry is lacking in young graduates thus resulting in high rate of unemployment.
