COLOMBO: A 16-year-old teenager was among three Sri Lankans detained by Customs at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) while trying to smuggle in 350 cartons of top ten brand cigarettes. The trio, the 16-year-old and two other suspects aged 65 and 38 years of age, had arrived on a flight from Dubai at around 2.00am today. The suspects were detained at the airport’s Arrival Lounge while trying to make their way through the Customs Green Channel at BIA.

The 350 cartons had contained 7000 cigarette sticks with a total value of Rs.3.5 million. The suspects were imposed a penalty of Rs.250,000 after the Customs inquiry. The stock of cigarettes were confiscated.
