TOKYO: The King of the Iron Fist Tournament makes its way to current-gen consoles, now that fans know Tekken 7 isn’t going to be an arcade exclusive. Rather Tekken 7 to Hit PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

According to Shoryuken, Tekken 7 was featured during an Unreal Engine 4 promotional video played during GDC 2015 (provided above). This video featured numerous, noteworthy games that were built using the Epic Games engine, and mentioned the platforms that they were being built for. During the short span that Tekken 7 was on-screen, Epic Games’ text revealed that the Unreal Engine was used to help make its arcade, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, which designates this as the first backstage word we’ve heard about it ever coming to consoles.

It’s a given that Tekken 7 would be reaching these consoles, since no major fighting game franchises exclusively go to arcade anymore, but it’s still nice to hear from a backstage source that the console versions are in development. With Mortal Combat X and Street Fighter V hitting current-gen consoles, it’s not like we weren’t expecting Tekken 7 to do the same. Nevertheless, we can’t wait to see what kind of online functionality we’ll get from the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Share Play would certainly make it easier for two-player sequences with our friends online.

Tekken 7 has recently launched in Japanese arcades, but has yet to make its console or Western debut. Stay tuned as we have a feeling Bandai Namco will formally announce its PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release dates soon.
