Telecom fetches about $4b investment in four years

ISLAMABAD: The telecom sector has fetched more than $3,976 million (about $4 billion) overall investment during last four years amid cellular mobile sector was the main driver behind this achievement.

In terms of overall investment in telecom sector, the momentum started in fiscal year 2013 for up-gradation of telecom networks for 3G and 4G services, has continued.

Telecom operators have invested a significant amount of $589 million during July- March 2015-16. Giving break-up, official sources on Sunday said main driver behind this investment was cellular mobile sector which has invested $557.3 million during the first three quarters of this year.

The sources said during 2012-13, cellular mobile sector attracted $570.4 million, in 2013-14 $1,789.7 million, in 2014-15 $977.6 million and $557.3 during nine months of this year. The sources said during 2012-13, Long Distance International (LDI) sector attracted $1.9 million, in 2013-14 $1.8 million, in 2014-15 $12.2 million and $3.7 during nine months of this year.

Similarly, the sources said during 2012-13, Local Loop (LL) sector attracted $16.1 million, in 2013-14 $14.2 million, in 2014-15 $3.9 million and $28 million during nine months of this year. During 2012-13, Wireless Local Loop (WLL) sector attracted $11.9 million, in 2013-14 $10 million, in 2014-15 $7.2 million and nil investment during first nine months of this year in this domain.
